Description
A woman portrays the role of kitchen help in the historic, reconstructed Bents Old Fort in La Junta, CO (USA). Bents fort was originally constructed in the early 1800's as a trading station and way post along the old Santa Fe Trail between Santa Fe, Mexico and St. Louis, MO (USA). It was historically significant and played a major role in its time. Almost everyone famous for exploring or making their reputation in America's Old West spent some time there at one point, along with people like this kitchen helper who found a place of refuge and employment in the surrounding untamed country. This is a photograph taken during an event that recreated authentic life of the times in the rebuilt fort. Photography filters have been used to give it a monochromatic and more "painterly" look.

This is really amazing. It looks really old. Having spent 4 decades refining my drawing, this feels to me like a very detailed drawing, possibly pen and ink in sepia of course, or even like an engraving. I think its the deep contrasts that give me that feeling. It is very beautiful and definately has a tone of antiquity.
